One detonation was heard. - "Furious" could not have been the target as she was in Philadelphia since Oct.7th, 1941. In fact, aircraft carriers "Eagle" and "Argus", escorted by destroyers "Foresight", "Forester", and "Fury" had left Gibraltar for the United Kingdom that morning. B-Dienst assumed sinking of a destroyer. But U 83 realized ASDIC-contact as well as searching movements of three destroyers. |
