23 years old. Entered the Merchant Marine in May 1939. Served aboard "BURGENLAND" the entire time. Captured aboard "BURGENLAND". when scuttled under the guns of USS OMAHA and USS SOMERS on 05 Jan 1944. Landed in Recife, Brazil. Initially taken as Prisoner of War to Pernambuco.
