Gefechtsbericht A: | While attacking a small enemy convoy off St. Helier (Jersey) at about 0040 today, M.T.B.s 415 and 431 engaged one of the escort trawlers, set her on fire, and saw an explosion on board her. There were three casualties in M.T.B.431 [2]. -> At approx. 0040 on 27th Force 113 encountered a small enemy convoy estimated to consist of 6 small coasters and escorting trawlers in the vicinity of La Corbiere, Jersey. Convoy was judged to be steering for Guernsey. M.T.Bs. of 23rd Flotilla detached to attack from N.W. while M.T.Bs. 415, 431 proceeded to carry out diversionary attack from southward. On closing it was seen that the convoy was in fact about to enter St. Helier and therefore 23rd Flotilla was unable to reach an attacking position. M.T.Bs. 415,431 accordingly closed and surprised an enemy trawler engaging at about 100 yards range. Enemy immediately caught fire and later an explosion was observed. Return fire from other escorts caused minor damage and 3 wounded in M.T.B. 431 only [2]. |
