Position of target : 68.56n 36.31e
Footnote : U-956 fired a spread of 3 FAT and heard a detonation after 7:40 min. But "Deyatelnyi" was not lost before 16.1. - The loss of "Deyatelnyi" could not possibly have been caused by U-286/Dietrich on Jan.16th. This boat left Harstadt on Jan.14th and thus could not have reached the Kara Sea in the elsapsed time. The attack, which was claimed in ASS 1968 and 1983 edition, was possibly a double of the attack of U-286 on Feb.16th. - At last remains the possibility that the destroyer was sunk by mine or by internal explosion. "The reason of explosion on board of 'Deyatelnyi' may have been the preparation of depth charges as of U-boat alarme. Stern part of the destroyer got lost, thereafter. U-boat alarme may have been a mistake, as well." (Axel Niestlé, 28.2.2003).
